Specialized First Aid Training for Dog and Cat Bites Successfully Completed in Oran

The Algerian Red Crescent (ARC), in collaboration with the Algerian Veterinary Space Foundation (AVSF), proudly announced the successful completion of a specialized training course focused on first aid response in cases of dog and cat bites. The session was held on Wednesday, October 8th, at the Ahmed Wahbi Institute of Music in Oran, opposite the French Consulate.

This training formed part of the Algerian Red Crescent’s broader efforts to strengthen the skills and readiness of its volunteers and first responders in handling emergency situations related to animal bites and potential rabies exposure.

The session was conducted by Dr. Cherif Toufik, President of the EVA Masterclass Academy, who delivered an engaging and practical program combining advanced first aid principles with correct medical and field protocols for managing bite injuries.
Participants also received specialized instruction — in partnership with AVSF experts — on safe and humane methods for capturing stray dogs and cats, a critical aspect of public health protection and rabies prevention.

Attendees praised the hands-on demonstrations and the emphasis placed on cross-sector collaboration between human and veterinary health professionals. The event served as a model for implementing the One Health approach in Algeria, promoting coordination between emergency response teams, veterinarians, and public health actors.

At the conclusion of the training, Certificates of Participation were awarded to all attendees in recognition of their commitment and engagement. Both the Algerian Red Crescent and the AVSF commended the participants for their professionalism, sense of responsibility, and contribution to community well-being.

This successful event stands as a significant milestone in the joint mission of the ARC and AVSF to enhance Algeria’s national preparedness and public health resilience, ensuring that local responders are equipped to act efficiently and safely in the field.
